It is one of the very few “ride share-exclusive” dash cams in the market. With an HD rear and front-facing camera. That’s right it’s a dual channel dash cam. The front-facing camera records footage in full HD resolution 1080p, with an impressive viewing angle of 170 degrees. The rear camera is a cabin recorder and covers a view of 140 degrees. Vantrue N2 Pro Dash Cam Review: Design
The Vantrue N2 Pro dash cam has an aesthetically pleasing design, though because it’s a dual channel dash cam. With a cabin recorder, it is somewhat awkward to find the perfect place for it in your vehicle. Personally, the rearview mirror area is the best placement option.
Moving on, it measures to 3.8 x 1.5 x 1.5” and weighs about 99.8g. The N2 Pro is small in size but is definitely noticeable. It won’t be completely hidden from view. Though from a taxi driver’s point of view, that isn’t necessarily bad.
The uniqueness of the Vantrue N2 Pro is that the front and rear camera are on the same unit, the rear camera offers an astonishingly wide viewing angle of 170 degrees with full HD 1920x1080P at 30fps or 1920x1080P at 60fps when used alone. The rear camera gives you a view of 140 degrees with full HD 1920x1080P 30fps. Now you do not see that every day.
The N2 comes with a suction cup mount that is pretty simple to attach and detach. The downside of the mount is that it cannot handle the acceleration. It gets a bit shaky if the vehicle moves too fast, ultimately compromising the quality of the recording.
On the side, you will find an SD card slot. It can support a 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB card. According to our experience, I would recommend getting a genuine Samsung SD card. There is a high chance it won’t recognize other kinds of SD cards.
The Vantrue N2 Pro comes with mini USB cables the user is supposed to attach in the cigarette lighter port. Using some external cable clips, you can keep the cable mess away by clipping it near the dashboard area.
The setup process and menu interface has improved significantly from the N1, so I’d say it’s a win.
Vantrue N2 Pro Dash Cam Review: Video Quality
Here comes the highlight of our Vantrue N2 Pro dash cam review, the video quality.
Video quality is the most vital aspect of a dash cam and there’s no such thing as “the best dash cam” with sub-par video quality. Let’s see how the N2 Pro fares. The front camera, even though has a wide viewing angle of 170 degrees, it still doesn’t suffer from fish-eye. That is some pretty impressive stuff.
The video quality of the front camera is 1920x1080P at 30fps or 1920x1080P at 60fps if the rear camera isn’t in use. All in all, it’s fantastic. With the OV4689 sensor, for the front camera, the Vantrue N2 Pro offers well-rounded protection. The cabin camera also offers full HD resolution, 1920x1080P at 30fps. That is really pushing dash cam boundaries, since majority dash cams do not offer such high resolution in the rear cameras. The cabin camera can rotate 80° to capture anything going on outside the vehicle. It’s a lucrative dash cam, that’s for sure.
The video quality of both, the front facing and rear camera is crystal clear, vibrant and sharp. It is one of the best video qualities we’ve seen so far! Keep in mind, the firmware upgrade on the Vantrue website is required for a natural color image.
The highlight of the Vantrue N2 Pro is the Infrared Night Vision. This feature is only available for the cabin camera. A lot of dash cams have night vision mode, it’s nothing new.
Vantrue N2 Pro Dash Cam Review: Features
The Vantrue N2 Pro comes with an impressive set of features and our N2 Pro dash cam review, is going to get into all the juicy bits!
But first let’s see what we get in the box:
- N2 Pro Dash Cam with Suction Cup Mount;
- 3ft Mini USB Cable;
- Car Charger with 10ft Mini USB Cable;
- User Manual
- Quick Guide
Let us begin with the loop recording feature, it overwrites the oldest footage with the newest upon reaching full card capacity.
The G-sensor feature senses collision risks and emergency locks the footage to “Event File”. To prevent the footage from getting deleted. (Recommend Samsung Evo card). Optional GPS feature to track the journey route, location, and speed. The interior cabin camera uses a Sony IMX323 sensor, 4 IR LED lights, meaning it can record high-quality video footage in the cabin, in little to no light.
The N2 Pro has an emergency button on the front side that has several functions. When driving and recording, pressing the emergency button will take a picture of what the dash cam is seeing and will protect that picture from being deleted.
The Vantrue N2 Pro has a 24 Hours Motion detector parking feature that enables the dual channel dash cam to automatically record every time it sense movement near the vehicle. The Vantrue N2 Pro can bear temperatures as low as -4° and as high as 158°F (-20° to 70°C).
The rear cabin camera can rotate up to 80 degrees, to catch any action happening around the vehicle. The time-lapse function automatically takes photos at certain intervals.
Superb audio recording with a built-in microphone, with no distortion complaint.
Is it worth the Price?
You can find the N2 Pro on Amazon, for $199.99. It is an expensive camera but to keep it short. Yes, it is worth it. Especially if you’re a taxi driver. It is a life and money saver! An intelligent investment, if I do say so myself. It’s the best rideshare dash cam to come out so far.
With a long term warranty of 18 months and great customer support. If you have any issues regarding the Vantrue N2 Pro, you will get a response instantly!
The Vantrue N2 Pro is a pretty cool piece of equipment and a car accessory that is going to go a long way. Yes, it is expensive, for $200 but it is offering a lot. And I can’t really say that this dash cam has a lot of alternatives because it doesn’t.
The market isn’t flooding with this type of ingenious technology and this dash cam has literally been made to cater to a taxi driver’s needs. It provides all the basic features, though it is kind of upsetting there isn’t any Wi-Fi connectivity. The N2 Pro also has a Motion Detection feature, which is pretty indispensable. Overall the reliability and convenience offered by the N2 Pro is fantastic.
It offers great security and surveillance. I would be a happy little camper if I had an accessory like this in my car, taxi or not. All in all, I found the Vantrue N2 Pro to be one of the best dash cams we’ve ever reviewed. I would give it a solid 4.6 out of 5 stars!
